Celebrates the Drunk Ghost (of San Francisco)

Taking inspiration from his guitar heroes Sandy Bull and Jack Rose, guitarist CEB has shed the Liquid Indian moniker for his second, proper solo effort and gone full translucent disclosure in an all acoustic, affectionate showcase of love and gratitude for San Francisco, California, his home for the last 17 years.

Documented in first takes, these lush, Eastern raga inspired tracks were originally intended to be "demos" for a potential collaboration with Sonic Youth's Lee Ranaldo, whom Beaulieu had approached to take on the producer role after meeting and discovering a shared a bond over their love of the Dead. Time and geography had other plans however and after months of failed attempts to align the session, the music told Beaulieu that the goal of the vision had already in fact been realized.

On Celebrates the Drunk Ghost, Beaulieu channels Rose, Bull, Rodrigo Y Gabriela, "Dead Man" era Neil Young, pays tribute to his favorite guitarist Jimmy Page via the hybrid track Rain Dance of Death Raag and also employs his talent as a percussionist via live loops beaten on the acoustic, all performed during tracking.

As guitarist for celebrated Bay Area punk bands Triclops! and Bottles+Skulls, the curator of the Anywhere recording collective and drummer of Merge Records artists Vertical Scratchers, Beaulieu has had very unique opportunities to have collaborated with some less unknown artists like The Mars Volta, Caribou, Melvins, Rova Saxophone Quartet, Brainiac, Nirvana, Mike Watt and even a winner of America's Next Top Model.

When asked about the process for finding the inspiration to go all acoustic with this release he reveals;
"I have pretty steep expectations for what actually gets shared as musical output. So whatever the muse decides to try, it has to be on par with my past for me to be inspired or satisfied later on. That's why I reached out to Lee because the idea of working with a producer who knows how to employ a limitless approach to guitars, while making something as stripped down as an all acoustic record sounded really exciting, something new. In going acoustic it's definitely an attempt to tell my brain to shut out any electrical layering desires and just be happy to swim in the simple, yet immense resonance. It also reminded me of that quote that Garcia supposedly told Jorma which he may have gotten from Miles: "It's not what what you play, it's what you don't play that counts."
